An ultrasound performed on a 56 year-old woman with a history of blockage of the
intestines revealed a 2 cm cyst on the left ovary. With normal CA125 levels, the
patient was scheduled for control after 3 months. In the second ultrasound, a suspicious
7mm vegetation was found, raising the possibility of cancer. A subsequent MRI test
did not find the vegetations but showed fibroids in the uterus, which led to surgery
being performed. Pathology however showed a benign ovarian cyst.
The HistoScanning™ analysis was negative, indicating no malignant patterns. If used
in clinical setting, HistoScanning™ may have reduced the need for the MRI in the
process of differential pre surgery diagnosis. |
